![]() Camden Sunday LeagueThe Constitution vs Surreal Madrid 04/02/07 (Report 4)The TeamGoalkeeper: Paul Defence: LB: Daniel Reed, CB: Justin Howsego, CB: Will Evans, RB: Sam O'Neill Midfield: LW: Sebastian Timmins, CM: Gary Miller, CM: Daryl Malcolm, RW: Tom O'Neill Forwards: CF: Billy Evans, CF: Ruben Malcolm Subs: Laurence Lee, Shane Murphy, Lee Miller Manager: Dave O'Donnell The last time the Constitution and Surreal Madrid met was in the middle of November last year. There were plenty of chances but no goals and ended in a nil-nil draw. We were determined to get the better of Surreal Madrid, the only team to have taken points from us. The game was fast and aggressive. We started the stronger team with accurate passing and swift movement. Billy and Ruben were constantly testing the defence and keeper. Surreal Madrid then came at us in full force, causing havoc with our midfield and defence. They suddenly broke through on goal and their central midfielder shot from outside the box into the back of the net, leaving Paul helpless and the rest of the Con team shell shocked! 1-0 to Surreal Madrid. We had to get our heads up and score before the game slipped out of our grasp! After some impressive defending and midfield possession we finally got the breakthrough we needed when Tom brought the ball under control and cut through the Surreal Madrid defence to smash the ball home past the keeper! 1-1. In the second half we introduced our three substitutes, Laurence, Shane and Lee, for Sebastian, Gary and Ruben. They made an immediate impact, forcing Surreal Madrid into their own half. We then had most of the possession throughout the final 45 minutes but just didn't have the end product. Final score 1-1. Our local football team triumphs -- yet again! The Constitution vs D.L 28/01/07 (Report 3)The TeamGoalkeeper: Paul Defence: LB: Daniel Reed; CB: Justin Howsego; CB: Will Evans; RB: Sam O'Neill Midfield: LW: Tom O'Neill; CM: Gary Miller; CM: Shane Murphy; RW: Sebastian Timmins Forwards: CF: Billy Evans; CF: Ruben Malcolm Subs: Laurence Lee, Lee Miller Manager: Dave O'Donnell The Constitution, still unbeaten in the league, faced a D.L side cemented at the bottom of the league throughout the season, with only one win under their belt (see League table 2006-2007.pdf). We thought it would be a walk in the park and that the opposition would just lie down for us. We were wrong! Well, at least for the first 20 minutes. D.L held onto the ball well and tested us all over the pitch with their passing. We started piling on the pressure in the 25th minute but couldn't quite break through their solid defence. Then against the run of play D.L broke through the Cons defence with a lofted ball over the top and their striker shot without hesitation, lobbing keeper Paul from outside the box (1-0)! We all knew we had step it up a gear: we did just that and Ruben equalized just before half time with a darting run into the box connecting with a cross from Gary Miller (1-1). We started off the second-half perfectly when Billy fired home from just inside the box after some brilliant passing and moving from the defence and midfield, opening up D.L. A few minutes later Ruben skinned two defenders to get his brace and put the Con 3-1 up. In the 70th minute Laurence Lee and Lee Miller were brought on as subs for Sebastian and Shane, adding a fresh and different dimension to the midfield. It wasn't long before Billy was on the score sheet again: put through on goal with an accurate through ball from the midfield, he calmly finished with a side-footed shot past the keeper. Then, with 5 minutes left and some brilliant passing and possession from the whole Constitution team, Laurence picked up the ball in the box and smashed home for the Cons' fifth and final goal. Final score 5-1. Mayville are well organized, very physical and fast, so we knew we had our work cut out. Mayville started applying the pressure straight away, testing our defence and forcing our midfield back. After a 10-minute spell of no possession and constant defending we finally got the ball down and started passing and moving, something we do very well as a unit. The opposition couldn't keep up and we got our first goal in the back of the net when Billy struck with his right foot, leaving the keeper no chance. The Mayville players then made the mistake of dropping their heads and starting to argue amongst themselves, so we used that to our advantage. Ruben (Spike) cut through the defence and went round the goalkeeper to make the second score. At half time Mayville already looked a defeated side. We kicked off and they kept their physical game going, trying to wind us up and make us bite, but we knew we had to stick to our game. Subs Lee Miller and Tom O'Neill came on for Gary Miller and Shane Murphy. The manager's decision to bring on fresh legs soon paid off as Spike was put through by his brother Daryl to score the third goal. The fourth followed shortly with intricate passing -- a through ball from Tom put Billy through, he then unselfishly laid the ball off to Sam, who fired home from the edge of the box into the bottom corner with a ferocious drive that left the keeper helpless and Mayville well beaten! Final score: 4-0 to the Constitution. Top of page The Constitution vs Deadly Scorpions 14/01/07 (Report 1) The Team: Goalkeeper: Paul Defence: LB: Adam May, CB: Justin Howsego, CB: Daniel Reed, RB: Sam O'Neill Midfield: LW: Lee Miller, CM: Gary Miller, CM: Daryl Malcolm, RW: Tom O'Neill Forwards: CF: Ruben Malcolm (Spike), CF: Billy Evans Subs: Laurence Lee (CF), Sebastian Timmins (RW), Shane Murphy (CM) Manager: Dave O'Donnell The Constitution had played and beaten the Deadly Scorpions earlier in the season in a nail-biting 3-2 victory that went down to the wire. Going into this game on Sunday 14 January we knew what to expect from the Scorpions -- a tough physical game, which it was throughout. Ten minutes in and with a precise through ball from the right wing (Tom), Billy fired a shot at the goalkeeper, who could only deflect it into the back of his net for the first goal. The second was soon to follow: again an excellent build-up from the defence, retrieving the ball and releasing it to the midfield Spike, who went round the keeper to slot home the goal. Against the run of play the Scorpions then broke through the defence and scored, sending a message to The Con that they wouldn't be beaten easily. But again, with a great build of passing by the team, Spike shot just inside the box to score the third goal! Now 3-1 up with 10 minutes left, Dave O'Donnell tightened the midfield by bringing on Laurence, Shane and Sebastian and taking off Billy, Daryl and Tom. The Con continued to pile on the pressure until the final whistle. Final score 3-1. Still unbeaten in the league.
